STATE PARK VOLUNTEERS - Capacity Building

Sponsored by the California State Parks Foundation (CSPF), V-O-Cal is lending its expertise in planning and managing quality volunteer events to help build volunteer capacity in State Parks throughout the state for the Park Champions Program. V-O-Cal's primary role in the PCP is to train volunteers to plan, manage and lead great volunteer events, taking on the logistical tasks that make coordinating volunteer projects so time-consuming for staff.

The PCP is in a pilot stage with 12 participating parks. A combination of project planning training, crew leader training, and demonstration projects has had V-O-Cal Exec. Dir. Cathy Moyer traveling a lot since mid 2010.

Starting with Montana del Oro in Morro Bay and most recently with training and projects in LA & Ventura, new volunteers are exposed to a small, one-day version of "The V-O-Cal Way" (apologies to the Riders in the Sky).We are looking forward to projects in Silver Strand State Beach in San Diego, Olampali State Historic Park in Marin, Mt Diablo State Park, and many others. If you want to help or have friends in other parts of the state who envy your V-O-Cal experiences, check in with Cathy about getting involved with the PCP.
