The Owl Trail - GGNRA in the Marin Headlands
RESCHEDULED!!
New project dates: October 18-19, 2008 V-O-Cal is teaming up with the GGNRA for a trail project in the Marin Headlands just south of Stinson Beach. Camping at the Muir Beach Overlook and working from there to Slide Ranch, V-O-Cal volunteers will restore the Owl Trail, a much-used coastal hiking trail that is being lost to vegetation. Volunteers will also install steps and fencing to improve access and protect some federally listed plant species. Date: October 18-29, 2008 Agency Partner: National Park Service, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Trails Forever Program Schedule: The preliminary schedule for the weekend activities covers both days, but volunteers are welcome to sign up for just Saturday or just Sunday. Fact Sheet: To Be Posted Soon Waiver: V-O-Cal Volunteer Waiver Project overview Volunteers will build over roughly 25 steps, fortify approximately 200 ft of trail using rock brought in with wheel barrows, create 6 short re-routes to avoid problematic trail sections, and clear brush and re-work the walking surface of approximately 1 mile of trail. As always, VOCal will encourage volunteers to camp with us on Friday and Saturday nights so that work can begin early on Saturday and Sunday as well as so that volunteers can enjoy the company of other like minded folks who work hard and enjoy a good camp out. Please register online so that you will have all the information you need. If you are under 18, you will need to have a parental signature on your waiver to be allowed to participate. Preliminary Schedule Volunteering Options: We encourage you to come for the weekend, although you can volunteer for one day if you can't make the entire weekend. Food and Drinks: Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner will be provided on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Volunteers will assemble their own lunch on-site. There will be a hot dinner on Saturday night and a hot breakfast on Sunday morning. Vegetarian options are provided for all meals. Cold beverages (including some beer for those 21 and over) are provided at the end of the work day on Saturday. Please bring your own eating utensils. We follow “Leave no trace” camping guidelines, bring a plate, a cup and eating utensils for your own use.
